Pontius Tax Law was proud to sponsor the 2026 MSBA Taxation Section Irving Shulbank Memorial Dinner, one of the premier annual events of the Maryland State Bar Association. The evening presented awards to outstanding members of the tax law community. Robb Longman, Esq., received the J. Ronald Shiff Memorial Pro Bono Award, and David Polashuk, Esq., received the 2026 Tax Excellence Award. Also speaking was keynote speaker Daniel I. Werfel, former Commissioner of Internal Revenue, who offered his views on significant trends in the tax profession. We are honored to support events that bring together legal professionals and celebrate excellence in Maryland tax law.
Pontius Tax Law was proud to sponsor the 20th Annual Tax Professionals’ Networking Night presented by the Maryland State Bar Association Taxation Section on November 17. This association serves Maryland and beyond, helping legal professionals through ongoing advocacy and support at every stage of their careers. The MSBA works to connect legal professionals with one another as well as leaders in the industry, and its Annual Tax Professionals’ Networking Night is one of the many ways it fosters those connections. We were honored to support an event that brings together tax professionals, attorneys, and law students to strengthen relationships and advance the legal community.

Attorney John Pontius joined the MSBA Section of Taxation Law learning event that was co-hosted by MACPA and had the pleasure of presenting for the 2022 Advanced Tax Institute for day 2 discussing Fundamentals and Hot Topics in State / Federal Controversy. Pontius spoke about tax controversies including audits, appeals, and collection alternatives to liens and levies.

Mr. Pontius began practicing law in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps in Germany and was deployed to Iraq. Due to this, he believes Veterans are owed a huge debt for the service they do for our country. We are looking to hear from Veterans, or individuals who are close with a veteran, about why they deserve to be recognized for their service.
