Mr. Haghiri graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law. While there, he worked as a Student Attorney at the University of Baltimore Tax Clinic representing business and individual taxpayers to favorably resolve state and federal tax controversies. Mr. Haghiri gained valuable experience preparing offers-in-compromise, installment plans, innocent spouse relief requests, and substantiating self-employment tax deduction.
Mr. Haghiri interned at the Maryland Comptroller Hearings and Appeals Section where he worked alongside hearing officers who conducted informal hearings filed by business and individual taxpayers who appealed an additional tax assessment or the denial of their refund. Based on his research and evaluation, the Maryland Comptroller’s office assessed a fraud penalty against a Maryland individual income taxpayer.
Mr. Haghiri has also served as a Tax Research Analyst at H&R Block supporting tax professionals in resolving federal tax controversies stemming from individual income, business, and international tax issues. He also offered technical guidance to tax professionals concerning the preparation of tax returns, including explanations of calculations and data entry on tax forms.
Prior to law school, Mr. Haghiri received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Texas at Dallas and worked at Nokia for eight years managing engineering teams for the Global Network Operation Center; developing scope and risk assessments for audits; and identifying and documenting risks associated with building secure scalable networks for cities within the United States and Europe.
