Job Posting – Associate CPA or Enrolled Agent
Pontius Tax Law is seeking a self-starting, client-centric, engaging junior CPA or Enrolled Agent either in our main Washington, DC office or remotely. Law Firm
We are a regional tax controversy law firm with offices in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. We represent individual and business clients with sensitive and serious tax matters before the Internal Revenue Service and state taxing authorities in the following areas:
- Offshore and domestic disclosures
- FATCA, FIRPTA, tax planning
- Unfiled tax returns
- Release of tax liens and levies
- Employment taxes
- Trust fund recovery penalty
- IRS and state audit exams, Appeals, and US Tax Court litigation
Duties
- Strategize effective resolutions to tax controversies
- Conduct compliance checks with the IRS and state taxing authorities
- Directly correspond with the IRS, state taxing authorities, and clients
- Prepare and review financial documents to determine the client’s financial position
- Prepare Installment Agreements, Offers in Compromise, and other tax solutions
- Communicate with the IRS and state authorities to determine clients’ tax debt status
- Release wage garnishments and bank levies
- Manage 20+ cases while regularly communicating with supervising attorney
- Prepare workpapers and Forms 1040/1041
- Prepare international returns including Forms 8938, 3520, 2555, FBARs
- Assist with client intake, file management, and marketing efforts
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in accounting required
- CPA or EA qualification required
- 2-4 years of tax controversy and tax preparation experience required
- Thorough understanding of US federal income taxation required
- Ability to manage multiple client matters in a fast-paced environment
- Must be organized and proactive in balancing multiple priorities
- Strong and effective communication skills
- Ability to communicate researched tax positions both verbally and in writing
- Proficiency with tax research required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel required
- Clio and Drake Tax experience preferred
